Our August 2022 recap is here! A simple one-page listing of articles from the past month. We are often overwhelmed by information and miss what is most important. Our goal is to highlight the most pertinent information for our readers. If you’re a decision-maker, IT service provider or a reader who wants to keep up to date with the latest news from the world of Tech, TechKnowledge is your go-to platform.
Vulnerable digital platforms put millions of users’ data at risk everday. A data breach can occur on any system or application, from top-tier social media platforms to small IT service provider apps. Most of the time data breaches occur due to poor system set up often due to a lack of cyber security skills.
Not all breaches are the same. Some are caused by a faulty system or bugs in the software or inexperienced programmers. As more and more companies build their online presence, a significant part of their business is online-based and therefore vulnerable. A business may only have a few products or services showcased and a simple payment option on their website but that is enough for hackers to cause some real damage and for significant data breaches to occur.
The Covid 19 pandemic has totally changed the way we work, with many employees now dividing their time between home and office. Hybrid working seems to be here to stay and many employees are reluctant to return to a scenario where they are office based 100% of the time. As the situation with Covid has improved, many companies have started to encourage their employees to return to the office but are finding many would rather continue to work from home.
Organizations need to find ways to enable hybrid working, keeping their workforce happy without compromising productivity or profitability. Technology is key when it comes to implementing a successful hybrid working environment. Let’s look at some of the ways tech can help overcome some of the challenges that companies face.
Intel’s latest generation of CPUs, the Alder Lake line up, was launched in late 2021. It was a big improvement over the previous generation, offering a heterogeneous composition of its cores which consist of performance cores and efficiency cores. Now, some systems which are equipped with these CPUs (a total of 18 12th Generation CPUs), specifically the ones that have Intel UHD 770 integrated GPU are having issues with Chrome, Edge and other chromium based browsers. This issue was caused by a recent driver update which caused these browsers to become very laggy, to such an extent that it would take multiple seconds to register a single click. The browser would appear choppy while scrolling and would freeze sometimes. The issue is severe in systems which use a mechanical hard drive to store swap data. Apparently, this driver bug causes chrome to store RAM data in swap memory unnecessarily. Although this issue is not causing any hardware related damage to the system, an issue like this is not expected from a company like Intel.
Carbon emissions are a major concern for businesses throughout the world. They contribute to climate change, and they also have a huge impact on the bottom line. Industrial processes and fossil fuels are responsible for 65% of global carbon emissions. That’s why many companies are looking for ways to reduce their carbon emissions. And one way they’re doing that is by using the Internet of Things (IoT).
The Internet of Things (IoT) has been one of the most talked about technologies in recent years and its potential to change the way we live and work is massive. One of the key areas in which IoT is expected to have a huge impact is sustainability and reducing carbon emissions.
There are already several examples of how IoT is being used to help businesses and organizations reduce their carbon footprint. In this article, we’ll explore how IoT is contributing to companies’ ambitions of lower carbon emissions.
